Echium vulgare and Echium plantagineum: A Comparative Study to Evaluate Their Inclusion in Mediterranean Urban Green Roofs

چکیده

Green roofs (GRs) are proposed to offset against numerous environmental and socio-economic concerns associated with climate change urban sprawl. In Mediterranean areas, protect conserve biodiversity through GRs, the use of native plant species from arid environments shallow roots is generally recommended. north Europe, Echium vulgare L. widely used on GRs for its tolerance abiotic stresses attractiveness bees; unfortunately, since this requires cold winters induce flowering warm wet summers vegetative growths, adaptability has been questioned. The current study based hypothesis that plantagineum can adapt better environment than E. offer blooms pollinators, thus providing important ecosystem service (UES) protecting entomofauna biodiversity. To compare vs. vulgare, both were grown studied extensive GR installed at ENEA Casaccia Research Center, in Rome, Lazio, Italy. comparative analysis performance two was several plant-related traits, including seed morphology, rosette stage, inflorescence, flower root-related their biological life cycle, most them showing significant differences (for example, area 1.42-fold major vulgare). information provided manuscript will be useful update herbarium records conservation biology. A dramatic water stress purposely applied before end hot summer season, while faced success imposed dehydration (88.4% vegetation cover), did not (7.5% presumably because biennial cycle which allow it complete maturation (only 46.9% percentage mature seeds respect 89.5% plantagineum). summary, as main result, work shows inclusion mixes meadow could represent a valuable alternative temperate safeguard pollinators allowing energy saving.

Flowering Dynamics and Pollinator Visitation of Oilseed Echium (Echium plantagineum)

Echium (Echium plantagineum L.) is an alternative oilseed crop in summer-wet temperate regions that provides floral resources to pollinators. Its seed oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as stearidonic acid, which is desired highly by the cosmetic industry. Seeds were sown in field plots over three years in western Minnesota in spring (early-sown) or early summer (late-sown), and flower ab...

Echium vulgare L

Changes in the composition of fatty acids (FA) were determined in lipid extracts isolated from developing ovaries containing ovules and developing seeds of Echium vulgare L. The samples were collected successively over 20 days beginning with the first day after flowering. The contents of the n-6 FA family members, i.e., γ-linolenic (GLA) (C18 : 3) and linoleic (LA) (C18 : 2) acids changed in a ...

Functional Property of Honey from Echium vulgare

Chemical property of honey from Echium vulgare was investigated. In comparison with other honey species, the contents of total phenolic compounds and total flavonoids were the highest. α-Amylase activity was also extremely high: about three to nine hundred times as much as those of other honey species. The antioxidative activity of honey was investigated using four different methods. Honey from...

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids of Echium vulgare honey found in pure pollen.

The pyrrolizidine alkaloids previously identified in floral honey attributed to Echium vulgare (Boraginaceae) have been detected (8000-14 000 ppm) in pure pollen collected from the anthers of Echium vulgare. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids and/or their N-oxides were isolated from the aqueous acid extracts of pollen by use of strong cation-exchange, solid-phase extraction and identified by liquid chroma...

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids from Echium rauwolfii and Echium horridum (Boraginaceae).

Echimidine was isolated from Echium rauwolfii and Echium horridum and identified by MS, 1H- and 13C NMR as a major alkaloid. In addition, structures of 12 minor alkaloids were inferred from GLC and GLC-MS analyses: 7-angeloylretronecine, 7-tigloylretronecine, lycopsamine, 7-acetyllycopsamine, uplandicine, 7-angeloyllycopsamine, 7-tigloyllycopsamine, tigloyl isomer of echimidine, 7-angeloyl-9-(2...
